ABOUT

COAXIAL, a Prague-based architectural studio established in 2018 as interdisciplinary platform by Karolína Kotnour. COAXIAL is at the forefront of advanced design methodologies, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence-driven architecture. With a primary focus on leveraging cutting-edge AI algorithms, we specialize in pushing the boundaries of architectural design and composition in both physical and virtual environments. Our design ethos is driven by a commitment to exploring the future responsibilities inherent in AI-driven architecture. At COAXIAL, we harness advanced computer-aided methods across a spectrum of projects, including architectural design, generative design, procedural design, computational dynamic environment analysis, digital dynamic representation, and multidimensional visualizations. Our projects span diverse scales, contexts, industries, and artistic fields, ranging from digital environments and dynamic space sculpting to tangible built environments, sculptures, and immersive installations, all the way to audio-visual scenarios. Central to the philosophy of COAXIAL is our dedication to contemporary design research, particularly in novel computational methods and their applications. By engaging with forefront innovative software and computational languages, we deliver exceptional contextual design solutions to our clients. Our relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence ensures that COAXIAL remains at the vanguard of AI-driven architectural exploration, shaping the future of architectural practice. The fundamental element of the COAXIAL architectural studio is contemporary design research on novel computational methods and possibilities that are applied to our projects and design. The design process engaged with the forefront innovative software and computational languages provides excellent contextual design solutions to our clients.

PEOPLE

Karolína Kotnour is a pioneering AI architect known for her unconventional work in neuro-evolutionary architecture and  meta-architecture. With a visionary approach, she seamlessly integrates spatial design with audio-visual synthesis, redefining architectural boundaries. Her research delves into the evolutionary trajectory of architectural forms, drawing inspiration from neuroscience and machine learning.

Karolína’s designs resonate with an auditory dimension, creating immersive spaces where sound becomes an integral part of the experience. Her diverse portfolio spans continents, leaving an indelible mark on the built environment. Karolína received her Ph.D. from the esteemed FLOW studio at the Faculty of Architecture, CTU in Prague. Her work continues to inspire architects, researchers, and visionaries worldwide, reshaping our perception of architectural possibilities and inviting us to reimagine the very essence of space.

Robert Lisek Ph.D. is an artist, mathematician and composer who focus on exploring complex dynamic environments (biological, computational, social) and creating agents that learns to learn by ‘feedback’ with evolving environment and transform methods/algorithms it uses. He is involved in the number of projects focused on media art, immersive art and storytelling. Drawing upon post-conceptual art, software art and meta-media, his work intentionally defies categorization. Lisek is a pioneer of art based on machine learning and artificial intelligence. Lisek is also a composer of contemporary music, author of many projects on the intersection of spectral, stochastic, AI music and noise. His scientific research interests are category theory and high-order algebras. He is the author of 300 exhibitions and concerts, among others in Ircam Center Pompidou, ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, MAXXI Rome, STEIM Amsterdam, PRADO Museum, WORM Rotterdam, ARCO Madrid, Venice Biennale, LMCC NYC, Ars Electronic, Siggraph, etc. More: http://fundamental.art.pl
